Day 11 - Hiking to Peak Vošac
It's still dark when I leave Split towards Biokovo Nature Park. Mateja has recommended to either hike Sv. Jure or peak Vošac - one trail more strenuous than the other. And since I am always up for a challenge I opt for Sveti Jure and head straight for a small mountain village. What wasn't on my radar, however, is the strong Bora wind (a scary thing if you are sitting in a car shaking in the wind) and so I begin to doubt whether hiking alone in the mountains is really a good idea. Half an hour later I am about to cancel the hike completely but first I want to drive to Makar (starting point for the hike to peak Vosac) to see what the wind conditions are like there.
Arriving in Markar, I sit for a while in complete silence, wondering whether to hike or stay. Finally, and since the wind is not as strong as before, I decide to risk it. So it's 7:15 when I set off, still a bit anxious but also increasingly excited to see what hiking in the nature park will be like.
